DUCLOT, more than ever in the heart of Bordeaux

July 2017 - DUCLOT

After 130 years spent in rue de Macau in Bordeaux, we’re leaving these historic offices for a brand new address in the heart of the city: Place Rohan, in a group of buildings from the 18th century fully rehabilitated to offer a 1200 m2 working space spread over five levels.
This move allows us, among others, to regroup in one place our administrative headquarters (60 people) and the “reception” area used for the trading activity. As for the stock – several million bottles – it remains in a safe place in our 20 000 m2 cellars located a few kilometers, in the municipality of Martignas.
Originally, this new address was two buildings, n ° 3 and n ° 4 place Rohan, which face the majestic Saint-André cathedral. Built in the last quarter of the 18th century, they were bought from the Bordeaux city hall in 2014 during an auction and then “merged” to form the unique building that today welcomes our teams. This project was entrusted to the architect Marc Barani (2013 winner of the National Grand Prix of Architecture) after an invitation to tender.
These historic buildings, located in the protected area of the city, obliged the constructers to follow several specifications, forbidding in particular any modifications of the facades, and requiring the preservation of several noble elements inside. A full year of designing was therefore needed before starting the construction work in June 2016, which barely lasted a year.

Unique architectural features give all the attractiveness to the interior of the building: the monumental spiral staircase, which leads to the three upper levels while shaping the volume of the reception hall in its height; the glass wall that illuminates the staircase laterally from bottom to top thanks to the natural light flooding the inner courtyard, not forgetting the distinctive zenith Bordeaux roof; or the water mirror on the terrace of the 3rd floor, a nod to the city of Bordeaux.
